FORKS OVER KNIVES
I watched this video last night and it was such an eye-opener. Its basically a documentary that peels back the layers of reasons why Americans are struggling with obesity and why we eat the way we eat. It also breaks down the 3 leading causes of death (Stroke, Cancer and Heart Disease) and their relation to FOOD. What a revelation. Its cheaper and safer to eat clean but that's not always good for big business. I found it very interesting to learn that many of the "traditional" ways to obtain protein and calcium are now frowned upon by many medical experts. Hold off on the whole milk! Furthermore, the discussion around successfully curing many diseases with nutrition plans instead of medications just blew me away!
Case in Point: My diet from my 20s has caught up with me sooner than I thought. Let's just say...Pizza Face! :/ I went to see a Derm with my food diary in hand. Do you know what he did? He prescribed me pills and cream. Never asked about my diet, never discussed nutrition at all. No disrespect because I'm seeing results (although, I believe its from the changes in my diet) but the point is this if there is a way to cure yourself and prevent sickness simply by eating CLEAN, would you do it? I would. Don't wait till its too late. One part in the documentary an expert says that most strokes and heart attacks that lead to death come with no warning. Death is the first warning in most cases! I love fried chicken but not that much...
I promise you it will change the way you EAT and if it doesn't then go and watch Food Matters and Food Inc as well. As for me, I'm taking a step back from some of the foods I grew up with - Bye Bye Popeyes. Aaaahhhh! Seriously. When you know better, you do better. Go watch the movie. Try Netflix.
S/O to my girl Dani who put me on this one. Go check out her blog about all things natural @ http://www.thecurlydiva.com/.
